IMAP advises the shareholders of Herbold Meckesheim on the sale to Hillenbrand

IMAP advised the recycling machine manufacturer Herbold Meckesheim GmbH on the sale to the listed US industrial group Hillenbrand, Inc. in the context of a succession solution

IMAP advised the recycling machine manufacturer Herbold Meckesheim GmbH (Herbold) on the sale to the listed US industrial group Hillenbrand, Inc. (Hillenbrand) in the context of a succession solution. Following the acquisition, Herbold will become part of the recycling business unit of Coperion, a subsidiary of Hillenbrand.

Through the acquisition, Hillenbrand continues its long-term growth strategy and ideally complements with Herbold the plants and solutions offered under the Coperion brand. Both the brand and the location of Herbold Meckesheim will remain after the acquisition. In addition, the existing management team will continue to lead the company.

Herbold was founded in 1884 and has been managed by Werner and Karlheinz Herbold in the fourth generation. Herbold develops and manufactures machines and systems for plastics recycling and covers the most important steps of the recycling process with modular system solutions and automated recycling lines: from shredding to washing and separating to drying of used, mixed and contaminated plastics. The company recently generated revenues of more than EUR 50m and employs nearly 240 people at its headquarters in Meckesheim, its production site in Reichartshausen, and its US subsidiary in North Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Hillenbrand is a New York Stock Exchange-listed global industrial company operating in more than 40 countries with over 10,000 employees across a wide range of industries. Hillenbrand's portfolio includes brands such as Coperion, Milacron Injection Molding & Extrusion, and Mold-Masters, in addition to Batesville. Coperion, as part of Hillenbrand, headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, is a global leader in compounding, extrusion, feeding/weighing technology, and bulk materials handling, with a complementary service portfolio.

"We are pleased to hand over our family business, which has been built up over four generations, to Hillenbrand through a structured succession. Due to Coperion, among others, Hillenbrand has an excellent understanding of the market. Through the symbiosis of our companies, Hillenbrand will be able to offer complete recycling systems and turnkey plants based on state-of-the-art technologies in the future," emphasizes Werner Herbold, managing partner of Herbold, adding: "We would like to thank IMAP, who provided us with around-the-clock professional and dedicated support during the transaction process."

The IMAP team consisting of Henning Graw (Managing Director) and Sebastian Dinklage (Associate) exclusively advised the shareholders of Herbold within a structured M&A process through all phases up to the successful closing.
