Degroof Petercam advises the Sarens family in attracting a new long-term partner for the stake held by Waterland Private Equity

IMAP is pleased to announce that Degroof Petercam Investment Banking (IMAP Belgium) acted as exclusive financial advisor to the Sarens family, the controlling shareholders of the Sarens Group, in the search for a new partner willing to take over the 22% stake previously owned by PE investment firm Waterland.

Sarens is the global leader and reference in crane rental services, heavy lifting, and engineered transport. With state-of-the-art equipment, value engineering, one of the world’s largest inventories of cranes, transporters, and specialty rigging equipment, Sarens offers creative and intelligent solutions to today's heavy lifting and engineered transport challenges. In 2020, Sarens generated revenues of more than€600 million with an EBITDA of €157 million.

Begoos (Group Luc Tack) is active in the treatment of water-based side streams from industrial processes, cleaning of tank containers and trailers for transport of chemical and food products and the distribution of petroleum-based fuels. Begoos operates 8 plants in the Benelux and serves many European customers.

A competitive process was organized for the sale of Waterland’s stake, targeting both financial investors with a long-term investment horizon and strategic investors with the capacity to support the Sarens group in its future development. The Sarens family found such a new long-term partner with Begoos, a company owned by entrepreneur Luc Tack.

This transaction underlines Degroof Petercam’s long-term relationship with the Sarens group and its family shareholders, having assisted in various other investment banking mandates in the past. It also illustrates the team’s capacity to successfully run complex M&A transactions.
