Vishnu Chemicals Acquires Chrome Mining Complex from Volclay Group
Vishnu Chemicals Limited, an Indian specialty chemicals manufacturer, has acquired a Chrome Mining Complex in South Africa from the Volclay Group of Companies, through its wholly owned subsidiary Vishnu South Africa (Pty) Limited. The transaction was structured as a combined share and asset deal, with Vishnu SA acquiring a 74% stake in the mining entity — the maximum permitted under South African regulations for foreign-owned mining operations — and 100% of the Chrome Processing Plant and associated infrastructure. The total consideration does not exceed US$10 million.
The Chrome Mining Complex spans approximately 1,800 hectares and holds an estimated resource of 10 million tonnes of Chrome Ore. It includes a Chrome Processing Plant and associated mining infrastructure, and is currently on care and maintenance pending revitalisation post-acquisition. South Africa holds the world's largest reserves of Chrome Ore, and the complex is strategically located to support efficient extraction and logistics to global markets.
The acquisition provides Vishnu with a reliable, integrated source of Chrome Ore — a critical raw material for its specialty chemicals operations — reducing supply chain risk and supporting long-term production requirements at a cost significantly below a greenfield alternative.
