John Gaensbauer, Managing Director, joined Headwaters MB (now Capstone Partners) in 2016. His international career includes 18 years of experience as a Natural Resources Investment Banker, Mining Executive and Lawyer.
John joined Headwaters from Sierra Partners LLC, an advisory firm to domestic and international metals and mining and energy clients he founded with Headwaters Managing Directors Randy Eppler and David Charles in 2007. Before commencing on his banking career, John served as Group Executive, Investor Relations with Newmont Mining Corporation, the world’s second largest gold company. Before taking over the Investor Relations function, John served as In-House Counsel to Newmont, managing the legal affairs and transactions for Newmont’s West African, Central Asian and European operations, as well as Counsel for Newmont’s Treasury Group and Newmont Capital, Newmont’s in-house merchant banking group. Prior to joining Newmont, John practiced corporate and transactional law at Ballard Spahr LLP.
John currently serves on the Boards of two private equity-backed oil and gas companies: PRE Resources, LLC and Extraction Oil & Gas, LLC.
John earned a BA from Cornell University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver, College of Law (Order of St. Ives) and a Masters in Finance from the University of Denver, Daniels College of Business.
